As a preparation for the LIEBHERR World Table Tennis Championships, the Swedish national team has decided to hold their final training camp before the championships in the city of Varberg which is located around 40 minutes north of Halmstad.
Preliminary date for the camp is the 21-26 April and in the near future it will be made official what national team will compete against the Swedish team. To really get the pace up before the Worlds, there is also a friendly national team match planned between the two teams.
For the municipality of Varberg the partnership is positive in many ways.
– We´re counting on a large number of visitors during the training camp itself but also when the championships takes place. This deal will of course have a very positive effect on the hospitality industry but it will also strengthen the city of Varberg’s brand as an exciting and attractive tourist destination, says Martin Andersson, CEO at Marknad Varberg.
The table tennis tradition is strong in Varberg and the local club, Varbergs Table Tennis Club, was for many years dominant in womens’ table tennis in Sweden. The club will be an active player when it comes to organise both the training camp as well as the potential friendly national team match.
– From our side it feels really good to have the training camp in Varberg. The table tennis tradition is very strong here, says Swedish National Team Captain, Ulf ”Tickan” Carlsson.
The WTTC 2018 organising committee is also very happy with the partnership.
– To include the city of Varberg will make this project even stronger as a regional event, which has been one of our goals from the very beginning, says Johnny Ewerstein, Project Manager for the LIEBHERR World Table Tennis Championships.
