The Swedish troops for World Championships in Halmstad are now complete, both when it comes to the Women’s and Men’s Teams. On Tuesday the 4ht of April, 25 days before the LIEBHERR World Team Table Tennis Championships open up its gates, captain Peter Sartz announced Jennifer Jonsson (world ranking 160) and Filippa Bergand (world ranking 400) as the two players to complete already nominated Linda Bergström (world ranking 138) and Matilda Ekholm (world ranking 37).
– The four players that I have nominated are the ones with the best international results the last eight months. They have shown great mental strength which will be a deciding factor when it comes to making the best possible results in Halmstad, says Peter Sartz.

Strongest ranking ever
Third April, the very same day as the Women’s team was announced, the new April world ranking was released. The Karlsson’s, Kristian (world ranking 19) and Mattias (world ranking 20 are now among the top-20, which was a long time ago. We have to wander back in time all the way to 2005 to find two Swedes among the 20 best players in the world. Then it was Jan-Ove Waldner, 16, and Peter Karlsson, 18, who populated the charts.
The Swedish Men’s team is completed by Jon Persson (world ranking 63), Anton Källberg (world ranking 62) and young sensation and runner-up at the World Junior Championships, Truls Möregårdh (world ranking 315).
– If we look at the results that we have done in the previous team events the latest years, both at the WTTC as well as the Olympics, we have to chase the medals this time. It will be tough but we definitely have that capacity, says Swedish captain Peter Blomquist.
